Unhinged. Uncensored. Just Real Marketing.

by Brian Fanslau on February 20, 2010

So this is how we shall begin.

Blank.

Just as we all began.

I believe we are all equals regardless of title, color, fashion, or religion.

That being said I also believe we as human beings have the ability to create wealth through honestly supplying a service, action, trade, symbiotic relationships, etc…

What we do with the money we earn is often what gives capitalism a bad name.

I was fortunate enough to have a grandfather who believed in creating vast amounts of wealth then giving it away to people who he believed in could make the greatest impact with the money they had been supplied with. It pains me to think of all of the people who would not be in the house they are in, surgery that was paid for, job that was created, or funding that was approved to move forward with building projects in other countries if it were not for the funding from the private sector.

We despise Wallstreet’s greed, are jealous of the success of others, and attribute luck to the fortunate instead of taking the personal responsibility and motivation it takes to rise and fight with our actions and our wallets what we feel is right.

So how on earth does this “rant” have anything to do with Marketing? Simply put you now know briefly my world-view and with that information you can begin to form a mental image of me and my personality. Now think about 2 people who are close to you and briefly think about their world-view. Are they positive? Do they seek to be successful in their day to day lives? Do you?

Now think broader. And simply categorize the city or town you live in as a positive or a negative influence. You most likely categorized your residence as Negative because the economy is down and we are in the midst of double digit unemployment. Also it is commonly known that News is made when people die, bleed, or bad things happen to good people; all other News is pushed to the back of the line because people FEAR that the negative things happened to them or others they knew. Our government in the United States is Guilty of using fear to “unite” us in common causes against terrorism.

But why is it that people use fear over other mental emotions to coerce others to do what they may feel is right and just?

Fear is easy to instill in your followers as they respect you as their leader and through title, popularity, etc… you have gained a bit of  ”mind control” over them so you become their guide and they will heed your insight. In business if you use fear you often are sought out and put on the chopping block by your competitors and do not last. But if you are in an elected or in a position to silence others you will only have to worry about the followers catching up to what you are taking from them.

Why Fear? All of us fear things if it is not about ourselves it is for the welfare of others. Example. Look around you and pick three things you see (buildings out the window, friends, dog, cell phone, computer, etc…) and then in your mind imagine losing that item, person, thing, to a giant alien steam roller. You feel something right now and its deep inside you. This is called the fear-of-loss and is used widely in promotional offers and many many event marketing strategies and even in our elections. I’m not saying that it is bad but rather I would like you the reader to be aware of the messaging behind the words that are on pretty flyers and glossy screens.

This concludes my first post and I hope that we can continue this post below in the comments for discussion.

Sincerely,

Brian Fanslau

P.S. - Website will slowly take shape as I teach myself how to build more and more of it or get some help :)
